Speech and Language Therapy: Supporting Communication and Expression

Psychosis management
At Mind Heaven Trauma-Informed Neurodivergence Centre, we offer speech and language therapy (SLT) assessments and interventions tailored to the unique needs of each individual. Our speech and language therapist has extensive experience working within disability services, Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS) under the Health Service Executive, and with neurodivergent young adults. This wealth of expertise ensures a compassionate, neuroaffirmative approach to supporting communication and self-expression.

Expert-Led, Multidisciplinary Mental Health Care

Speech and language therapy focuses on assessing, diagnosing, and supporting individuals with communication, social interaction, and language needs. It addresses not only verbal communication but also non-verbal methods, ensuring each person can express themselves in ways that align with their preferences and strengths.

For neurodivergent individuals, such as those who are autistic, have ADHD, or communicate non-verbally, SLT can be a transformative tool in enhancing self-expression, building confidence, and fostering meaningful connections.

The Role of the Speech and Language Therapist

Our SLT services include:
Comprehensive Assessments
Identifying communication strengths and areas of need, tailored to each individual.
Tailored Interventions
Developing individualized strategies and supports to enhance communication, both verbal and non-verbal.
Support for Neurodivergence
Understanding the unique needs of autistic individuals, those with ADHD, or other communication differences, through a neuroaffirmative lens.
Collaboration
Working closely with families, educators, and other professionals to create a supportive communication environment.
Empowering Self-Expression
Helping individuals find their voice—whether spoken, written, or through alternative means of communication.

What Can Speech and Language Therapy Do?

Speech and language therapy offers a wide range of benefits for neurodivergent individuals, including:
Enhancing Communication Skills
SLT supports individuals who communicate verbally and non-verbally, helping them to express their needs, thoughts, and emotions in ways that feel natural and comfortable.
Developing Social Interaction
Building skills to navigate social situations, understand cues, and form connections with others in a way that respects their neurodivergence.
Supporting Non-Verbal Communication
For those who communicate through gestures, body language, augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) devices, or other means, SLT can enhance their ability to engage meaningfully with others.
Reducing Communication Barriers
Addressing challenges like speech clarity, processing language, or understanding social norms to help individuals feel more confident in their interactions.
Promoting Emotional Regulation
Helping individuals use communication as a tool for expressing feelings, reducing frustration, and advocating for their needs.
Fostering Self-Advocacy
Empowering individuals to understand and articulate their preferences, boundaries, and desires effectively.
Our Approach

Our speech and language therapy services are grounded in a **neuroaffirmative philosophy**, recognizing that communication is deeply personal and diverse. We celebrate each individual’s unique way of interacting with the world, focusing on building skills and confidence rather than trying to “fix” or “normalize” communication styles.

We work with individuals of all ages, offering:

01

One-on-one therapy sessions tailored to specific needs.

02

Group sessions focused on social communication and interaction.

03

Family and caregiver training to foster supportive communication environments.
